Arizona man accused in 1987 death of a San Antonio woman

Prescott police announced Tuesday that 65-year-old Larry Moore is in custody and awaiting extradition to Texas’ Bexar County.

A county grand jury indicted Moore with capital murder last Friday.

He’s facing charges of sexual assault and strangulation while committing or attempting to commit kidnapping.

County prosecutors say 25-year-old Dianna Lowery was found dead in January 1987 and an autopsy revealed it was a homicide.

The case went cold for decades until a second investigation led authorities to Moore, who lived in the duplex next door to Lowery in 1987 and allegedly had a spare key that allowed him access to her apartment.

The rise and fall and rise again of Google Fiber: A timeline

While Google Fiber just had its a comeback year—powered by shallow-trenching—the high-speed internet provider has discovered what a difficult game the telecom market can be. The service launched to great fanfare earlier this decade, but it scaled back its expansion plans in 2016, and has been working hard to regain momentum ever since.

Here is a full timeline of Google Fiber’s growth, beginning with city applications to become the first Fiber city in March 2010 to officially launching in San Antonio, TX in November 2017.

Texas man dies retrieving packages left on car roof

WACO, Texas (AP) — Police say a Texas man was struck and killed by a car as he retrieved a package that he had accidentally left on the roof of his car after a late-night shopping trip.

Waco police say the 59-year-old man died at the scene of the accident about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the man may have left items on the roof while packing up in the parking lot.

A package flew from the roof into the traffic lane as he pulled out of the parking lot. Police say he stopped his car and walked into the roadway to retrieve the item when a passing car struck him.

Police have not released his name pending notification of his family.

It’s pho season, and LA Crawfish is opening their second location in San Antonio with a crawfish blowout.

For their opening night party starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, the LA Crawfish Stone Oak location (inside a former Mooyah Burger) will offer pounds of crawfish and pho, each for $5. Veterans will get one free meal all night long. Opening hours will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The new location will feature the same menu the brand is known for on a smaller scale. T. Pham, who helped open the first store in Houston in 2011, says LA Crawfish will be expanding aggressively across the San Antonio market. The first LA Crawfish opened in 2015 in the Alamo Ranch area.

You only turn 300 once, San Antonio

You only turn 300 once, San Antonio. It’s crucial we get the Tricentennial right.

Are we on track? It’s fair to wonder. Recent news stories have raised a number of questions about the Tricentennial Commission, the nonprofit tasked with putting on the yearlong celebration for San Antonio’s 300th birthday.

Fundraising has been lackluster, and the Tricentennial Commission is nowhere near its goal of raising $10.3 million from the community — although there are signs fundraising may be improving.

The handling of a coveted and lucrative media partnership smacks of favoritism from the commission’s paid staff. And the volunteer board appears unwilling to take a critical view of staff’s handling of this most important celebration.

As Express-News reporter Josh Baugh recently highlighted, Tricenten...

Simply put: the gap between the richest zip code, 78248 on the north side, and the poorest, 78208 on the east side, is among the widest compared to other major metropolitan areas nationwide.

Last year, the widest gap was between 78258, also on the north side, and 78207 on the west ...

San Antonio Fans Are Wondering When The Next Ring Might Be

Fans of the San Antonio Spurs have reason to be proud and hold their heads high. Going back nearly 20 years, their team has the highest winning percentage of any franchise. That’s not just in the NBA, but in all major league sports. They just win more games than anyone else in MLB, the NHL, or even the NFL. In that time frame, they’ve also netted themselves six trips to the NBA Finals, winning five rings.

At first, some chalked it up to fluke luck. A serious injury to David Robinson, nicknamed the Admiral and considered one of the top 50 NBA players of all time, sidelined him for a season. The team did poorly, hit gold in the lottery ping pong balls, and drafted Tim Duncan. The two of them paired up when Robinson returned and won a championship together.

What was decidedly not a fluke was ...
